What do I do if killer bees are attacking me?

What do I do if killer bees are attacking me?As killer bees seek a new place to set up their hive, they travel in a swarm. Typically, a swarm will keep to itself and isn't looking for a fight. However, once a swarm does establish its new home, it will defend it with everything it's got. If the killer bee hive senses a threat from a human or pet, it may attack with severe aggression. So if killer bees have decided to call your property home, then you should call in an experienced expert to remove them. At Core Pest Solutions, we provide killer bee removal in the greater Phoenix area. Here's a look at what to do if you're being attacked by killer bees.

Run Away Fast

Killer bees are known to follow their targets for about a quarter-mile, and perhaps a bit longer. If you're in good shape, you'll have a decent chance of outrunning them. Killer bees fly at 12 to 15 miles per hour. Healthy humans can often outpace this speed over a relatively short distance. If the bees close in on you, you shouldn't swat at them, which will only anger them and make them increasingly aggressive.

Get Inside as Quickly as Possible

Bees might follow you into your house, but windows and bright household lights can throw their navigation skills out of whack. If the bees do follow you inside, you'll want to get under a thick blanket and wait them out.

Remove Stingers

After a bee stings you, its stinger will remain in the skin where it can continue to release venom and cause harsher symptoms. To remove the stinger, rake your fingernail across it in a sideways motion until it loosens. Instead of a fingernail, you can also try using a credit card. Generally, it's ideal if you don't pinch the stinger because doing so can release more venom into your body.
